Plumpton Racecourse is located at Plumpton,East Sussex,the south east of England.

No flat racing at Plumpton,just National Hunt (jumping) fixtures.

Plumpton,in common with most U.K.courses,is left handed.

Quite a small track,oblong in shape,with a circuit of just over 1 mile.

Plumpton Racecourse is set in a hilly location,and the track is a roller coaster trip for runners.

There are 7 fences to be jumped at Plumpton,with a fairly short run in of about 200 yards.

The bends at Plumpton are tight and horses need to be nippy and agile to prevail.

The hurdle track is outside the chase track,with slightly easier bends to negotiate,however both tracks merge to use the same run in to the post.

The run in here is uphill,and horses need stamina for final effort to the line.

The first meeting at Plumpton was held in 1884.

Regular meetings hosted at Plumpton,with about 16 meetings each year.

Plumpton Racecourse gives the visitor a superb view of the racing action as well as a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.

The first winner at Plumpton was a horse called Cowslip - and not content,entered and won another race at Plumpton on the opening day.

Built on clay,going in the past has often been heavy - but recent drainage work has improved the going for runners at Plumpton.

Racing legend Tony McCoy rode his record 3,000th winner at Plumpton in 2009 on Restless d'Artaix.

Contact the management before going racing at Plumpton - payment before race day will qualify you for a discount.

The Paddock restaurant is the best place to enjoy a meal and see the racing,as it is right on the winning line - but you will need to book a table before the day of racing.

Many other bars and fast food outlets at Plumpton for racegoers to choose from.

 

Disabled racing fans are well looked after at Plumpton - they provide,special parking areas,disabled toilets,viewing areas,and perhaps,most importantly of all,step free access to bars.

Plumpton Racecourse was threatened with closure some years ago,with developers circling to buy,but thanks to local businessmen Peter Savill and Adrian Pratt racing was secured at the venue in 1998 when they purchased the track.

Plumpton is popular with the locals who want to arrange weddings,functions,business meetings etc. -details and rates from events manager.

See the action close up in the centre of track - and you can either use the bars there or bring your own picnic and refreshments.

Senior Citizens get special deals for most meetings(not the big Easter meeting),and at present,the entrance fee is just £5,to be paid on the day of the races only.

Plumpton is ideal for racegoers to travel by train to the races,as Plumpton Station is right next to the course (on the London to Lewes Line).
