Ludlow Racecourse is in Ludlow,Shropshire,England,close to the Welsh border.

They race right handed at Ludlow Racecourse,which is the opposite to most other U.K. courses.

Chasers here need to be nippy types as the bends are quite tight,the hurdles course on the outside slightly less so.

The circuit at Ludlow is 1mile 4 furlongs - chase course flat,hurdles course slight undulations.

Fairly long run in from last fence at Ludlow Racecourse - about 400 yards.

Ludlow,often voted "the friendly course",does not extend that to their fences - they are quite tough and you need to jump well here to prevail.

Soil in the area means going is rarely soft or heavy - so stamina not a major requirement.

Horses tend to bide their time at Ludlow,stay close,and make their effort over the last few fences and long run in.

Ludlow only host National Hunt meetings - about 16 every year.

Ludlow has archives that record some of the earliest  organised race meetings in England - archers at the local garrison practiced their trade,and also raced their horses against each other on this site - in the 14th Century!.

The National Hunt track was established in the mid 19th Century ( records of flat racing from 1729 prior to N.H. course opening).

Locals,who are not racing enthusiasts,curse the racetrack,as roads around the course have to close on race days as public roads cross the track in 3 locations.

Racing fans can make a full day out if they also enjoy golf - there has been an 18 hole golf course inside the course since 1889.

Senior citizens do not get admission concession,but they do get a £2 voucher for free drink or snack (on offer at time of this review ).

Disabled facilities at Ludlow Racecourse are good,lift access available,separate toilet,and viewing area.

Children under 18 are allowed in free - if accompanied by an adult.

Many courses welcome dogs - not Ludlow !.

The Jubilee restaurant is the best place to enjoy racing in style at Ludlow Racecourse - a balcony overlooks the straight,and your table is booked for the whole day - but you must pre book to get a table.

If helicopter is your mode of transport,you can use the track to land - but confirm first with management.

Rail visitors alight at Ludlow Station,and the track is about 2 mile away (free shuttle bus service operates racedays).
