Kempton Park is located in the south east of England,just 16 miles from London.

Kempton Park differs from most tracks in England as they race right handed.

Two tracks - a polytrack surface for all weather flat racing,and turf course for National Hunt fixtures.

Both tracks here are quite sharp,and horses need to be agile and quick to take advantage.

Circuits are almost completely flat,and stamina is not really a major requirement to win at Kempton Park

The flat racing circuit is 1.25 miles,and the outer National Hunt course a little longer.


There are 9 fences ( more difficult than most courses) to negotiate each circuit,with 3 in the long home straight.

Draw bias - there seems to be a definite advantage to selecting runners with low numbers draw on flat track

Huge crowds congregate at Kempton Park on Boxing Day when their main race,the King George VI Chase is hosted.

Flat racing on turf ended in 2005,and a polytrack surface replaced grass racing in 2006.

Kempton Park site is busy on non racing days,and general markets and antique markets are held regularly.

Children are welcome at Kempton Park,and children's play areas and a creche are available to parents (family day meetings).

Kempton Park was opened in July 1878.
