Carlisle is right handed and different to most U.K. courses that are left handed.

Pear shaped course that is quite undulating in nature and about 1.5 miles in circumference.


All flat races will take in bends at Carlisle,including 5 furlong events that have a kink that does not make it truly straight.

Very stiff run to the line and you need horses who have stamina and have proven themselves here or similar tough courses,particularly as the going here is often heavy which compounds the stamina requirements.


Draw bias - there does not appear to be any draw bias in Carlisle flat races.

Fences at Carlisle ( 9 to negotiate each circuit) national hunt meetings are more of  a challenge than many other courses and mistakes are punished.


They have been racing at this site since 1904.
