Odds You Get for Placed Horses on Your SP or Tote Bets - Each Way Bets Explained.

This article will explain which bets qualify for payout when you bet each way.

Each way is just a term that means you are not only backing a horse to win but also to get placed.

Remember, your place bets are completely separate to your win bets and count as 2 different wagers.

So,if you do,for example,an Each Way Lucky 15,you now have 2 separate bets,a win Lucky 15 and a each way(place) Lucky 15 - you of course also have to pay for that place part of bet,and your bet is now for 30 bets - 15 for win,and 15 for place Lucky 15.

Another example - a Yankee bet consists of 11 bets, but an each way Yankee is now 22 bets.

As you can see,you just double the number of bets if you want to make your bet each way.

Your place terms are decided by the number of actual runners that take part - so if there are non runners, your place dividends will also change if numbers of runners are reduced - the number of runners is the deciding factor, not the number of runners declared in your morning paper or racecard.

For example if a race has 6 declared runners, and 2 are withdrawn - your place part of bet must now win, whether you like it or not,as just 4 took part. You do however get full starting price of that particular winner in your each way part of the bet.

1 to 4 Runners.

This selection MUST Win - no each way bets paid out on 4 or less runners unless you have the winner (but you can include 4 runner races in each way combinations, and you get full win odds for the place part of bet).

5 to 7 Runners .

A bet here gets paid on FIRST TWO PLACES and you get ONE QUARTER ODDS of starting price.

8 or More Runners in Non Handicap Races.

A bet here on any race that has 8 or more runners you get ONE FIFTH ODDS of starting price.

12 - 15 Runners in Handicaps.

The bigger the field, more generous bookmakers odds apply, and in Handicap races of 12 - 15 runners you will get ONE QUARTER ODDS first 3.

16 or More Runners - Handicap Races.

Handicap races are hard to solve,so bookmakers will pay you on FIRST 4 PLACES when 16 or more runners take part, and you also get ONE QUARTER ODDS of the starting price.

Remember, just Handicap races for 4th place - no matter how many runners in non handicap races, you will only get one fifth odds.
